If only vs Only if

20 yrs down the line, in the year 2030
someone might think -


We wouldn't have global warming today

If only we protected our trees,

If only we reduced our power consumption,

If only we burned our fat before oil,

If only we used our fuel needfully,

If only we used our water efficiently,

If only we said no to plastic.


We would be a better country today

If only we helped the poor,

If only we had respect for our farmers,

If only we abolished our caste system,

If only we didn't kill people in the name of religion,

If only skillful youth went into politics,

If only we had no Shibu Sorens,Mayawatis,Karunanidhis.



Now replace 'today' by 'tomorrow' and "If only" by "Only if" etc
and see what needs to be done from today to save our environment.

PS 1: I am glad I have no 'If only I had' moments when it comes to my life.(atleast right now).

PS 2: I often hear Indians are shining everywhere they are champions ,scientists etc but here my rational is that we are 1/5th(1 139 964 932 / 6 697 254 041) of world population and one should be surprised only when we are not at the top.
